![]() BM is much easier to get in to for online leagues and things like that. Baseball Mogul is a simpler version of this but they share a lot of the same items. Originally posted by kain611:OOTP 15 is a much deeper single person experience and a lot more customizable. I would say that OOTP is ultimately THE best baseball text based sim out there but BBM is a steal at 9.99 There are times when I want to do just that and BBM scratches that itch. One of BBM's strong points however is the ability to jump in and just play. If you've never played a baseball text based sim, then BBM is probably the better choice but if you don't mind taking some time getting to grips with a LOT of menus and myriad choices then OOTP IS the better game. That being said, OOTP is incrementally establishing an amazing 3D model of play that will eventually include on field player animations!īBM is much easier to get into in terms of starting a league and jumping in. OOTP is strictly confined to MLB.īoth allow you to create fictional leagues with fictional players which is a real challenge but I prefer to replay actual seasons.īBM has better sound effects and at this point better animation. OOTP includes other leagues in addition to American Major League Baseball thus reflecting the game's growing global popularity. For many people this isn't an issue but I prefer to play in the 19th century as well as the Dead Ball Era which spans from 1893 to 1920. In OOTP you can play 19th century baseball BBM starts in 1901 with the birth of the American League. OOTP's engine is VERY deep and the game is profoundly more customizable. For BBM, you have download logos for all years and rosters for the current season. So, out of the box you have access without mods or addons of official MLB rosters and logos for the current season in OOTP. That it in itself is quite an accomplishment when you consider that much older and more established sims like Diamond Mind, APBA, and Strat O Matic still do not have that endorsement. OOTP is the only text based sim that is officially endorsed by Major League Baseball. I AM going to buy Mogul 2015 but that's because I buy any statistical baseball game. The question really is how hardcore of a baseball fan are you? Both are good in their own way but if you are a really hardcore baseball fan who wants to play the game his way, then OOTP has the edge. it's just that OOTP is vastly superior game, a vastly superior gaming experience, and a vastly superior value for the money. That's not to say that the game isn't worth $10. Knowing what I know about both games from first-hand experience I would not buy Mogul for $10. I really don't have anything bad to say about the game except when comparing it to OOTP. Is it a better value than OOTP? In my opinion it's not.Īs I said, I did enjoy playing Mogul. To simply say that 'there are problems in both' is a poor comparison of the two games in my opinion.Īs for the price-point, Mogul is certainly cheaper compared to OOTP. I did enjoy Mogul when I played it, but I had never heard of OOTP and had no frame of reference to compare the two at the time. I've played Mogul for over 1000 hours and I've played OOTP for about 2000 hours I think I have a pretty good handle on both games and I'm about as unbiased of an opinion that you'll get. If just starting, $10 seems like a good entry price point. I don't mean to say OOTP is not "good" or "better", just I think there are problems in both still. Originally posted by Ahil:If you're just looking to get into baseball management, BM is probably better choice at first. Someone may come along later and debunk it, or agree with it. So Mogul is a baseball sim pioneer and as such I have respect for it, but I don't for one minute think it's kept up with OOTPB. That and Radio Baseball, Strat-O-Mat, and the early games like Earl Weaver and Tony La Russa Baseball. I'm pretty sure Mogul was one of the influences on Markus Heinsohn, the lead dev for OOTPB. Of course OOTPB doesn't have arcade baseball, but it's so good, it doesn't need arcade baseball. There's nothing keeping you from owning and playing both games, but without an arcade baseball game to anchor Baseball Mogul, I don't see how it could top OOTPB. OOTPB is played by real-world MLB players, managers, and owners. PC Gamer says Baseball Mogul is "the best baseball game". Back in the 1990's that was a very big thing.įrankly, I'm surprised that Baseball Mogul has lasted this long. ![]() Baseball Mogul, way back when, combined with Microsoft Front Page Sports Baseball to make a kind of mecha-beaseball game where you could play out the games in FPSB and then manage the team in Mogul.
